Super Senses of Animals — Fun Lesson for Class 5

?? Animals Have Super Powers!

Did you know that many animals can see, hear, smell, or feel things that humans cannot? These are their super senses!

?? Dog's Nose: A dog's sense of smell is 40 times better than a human's! That's why dogs help police find criminals and missing people.

??? Super Vision

  • ?? Eagle — Can spot a rabbit from 3 km away! Their eyes are bigger than their brain.
  • ?? Owl — Can see in almost complete darkness. Its eyes face forward for better depth perception.
  • ?? Fish — Can see sideways and backwards using eyes on the side of their head.

?? Super Hearing

  • ?? Bat — Uses echolocation — sends out sound waves and listens for echoes to find objects in the dark!
  • ?? Elephant — Can hear sounds made by other elephants 10 km away using very low sound waves (infrasound).
  • ?? Dog — Hears sounds much higher-pitched than humans (ultrasound). That's why dog whistles work!

?? Super Smell

  • ?? Butterfly — Smells flowers using sensors on its feet!
  • ?? Snake — Uses its forked tongue to "smell" the air and track prey.
  • ?? Ant — Leaves a chemical trail (pheromones) for other ants to follow to food!
?? Think About It: If you were an animal, which super sense would YOU want? Why?
