🌟 Let's Learn Simple Tenses! 🌟

1) Hook - A Fun Story

Meet Raju, a little boy from Delhi. Every morning, Raju eats his favourite paratha 🥞. Today, he is eating it happily. Yesterday, he ate a delicious jalebi 🍬.

Can you see how Raju talks about things happening now, always, or in the past? This is called using Simple Tenses! Let's explore how to use them!

2) Core Concepts - What Are Simple Tenses?

Simple Tenses tell us when something happens. There are three types:

Tense When? Example
Simple Present Now or always I play cricket every day.
Simple Past Before, yesterday, last week She visited the Taj Mahal last year.
Simple Future Tomorrow or later We will go to the market tomorrow.

3) Key Formulas / Rules

Simple Present Tense:
Subject + verb (base form) (add 's' or 'es' for he/she/it)

Example: She plays badminton.
Simple Past Tense:
Subject + verb + ed (for regular verbs) or use the past form (for irregular verbs)

Example: They watched a movie.
Simple Future Tense:
Subject + will + verb (base form)

Example: I will study tonight.

4) Did You Know? 🤔

The word "tense" comes from the Latin word "tempus" which means time! So, tenses help us know when something happens. Cool, right? 😎

5) Exam Tips 📝

  • Remember: Use 's' or 'es' with he, she, it in Present Tense. Example: He runs, not run.
  • Watch out: Some verbs are irregular in the past tense. Example: gowent, not goed.
  • Future tense always uses will + base verb. Example: I will eat mangoes.
  • Practice: Write 3 sentences for each tense about your daily activities.
  • Board exams: You may get fill-in-the-blanks or sentence formation questions on simple tenses.
