🍉 Fun with Fractions: The Mango Party! 🥭
Imagine you and your 3 friends bought a big, juicy mango. You want to share it equally. How can you do that? 🤔 You cut the mango into 4 equal parts because there are 4 friends. Each part is called a fraction of the whole mango. So, each friend gets 1/4 of the mango. Yum! 😋
What Are Fractions? 🤓
A fraction shows a part of a whole. It has two numbers:
- Numerator (top number) – tells how many parts you have.
- Denominator (bottom number) – tells how many equal parts the whole is divided into.
Fraction = Numerator / Denominator
Look at this example! 🍽️
| Whole | Cut into equal parts | Fraction | Meaning |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 pizza 🍕 | 4 slices | 1/4 | One slice out of 4 equal slices |
| 1 roti 🍞 | 2 halves | 1/2 | One half of the roti |
Types of Fractions
- Proper Fraction: Numerator is less than denominator (like 3/4).
- Improper Fraction: Numerator is equal to or more than denominator (like 5/4).
- Mixed Fraction: A whole number and a fraction together (like 1 1/2).
Always cut the whole into equal parts to make a fraction!
Did You Know? 🤩
The word "fraction" comes from the Latin word fractio which means "to break"! Just like breaking a chocolate bar into pieces to share with friends. 🍫
Exam Tips 📝
- Always check if the parts are equal before writing a fraction.
- Remember: The denominator cannot be zero! (You cannot divide something into 0 parts.)
- When drawing fractions, use shapes like circles or rectangles and divide them carefully.
- Practice questions where you shade parts of a shape and write the fraction.
- Board exams often ask: "What fraction is shaded?" or "Draw and write the fraction."

1. Fraction Family Rule 👪
"Numerator on top, Denominator below,
Like a little house where fractions grow!"
(Numerator = upar, Denominator = neeche)
🧡 Example: 3/4 means 3 parts out of 4 parts! -
2. Funny Acronym: NOD 🦉
Numerator = Number on top,
Out of means,
Denominator = Number below!
🧡 Like saying: "3 out of 5 apples" = 3/5 -
3. Hindi Rhyming Trick 🎶
“Upar ka hissa yaad rakhna,
Neeche ka hissa bhi samajhna,
Fraction ka matlab hai hissa,
Milke karte hain sab ka kaam!”
(Translation: Remember the top part,
Understand the bottom part too,
Fraction means a part,
Together they do the work!)
