🌟 Let's Learn About Adjectives - Comparison! 🌟

1) Hook - A Fun Story

One sunny day, Raju and Meena went to the mango orchard. 🍃

Raju picked a big mango. Meena picked a bigger mango. Then, their friend Arjun found the biggest mango of all! 🥭🥭🥭

Wow! They used special words to tell which mango was big, bigger, and biggest. These words are called adjectives of comparison.

2) Core Concepts - What Are Adjectives of Comparison?

An adjective describes a noun (a person, place, or thing). When we compare two or more things, we use adjectives of comparison.

Type Example Word Sentence
Positive (Normal) Tall She is tall.
Comparative (Compare 2) Taller She is taller than her brother.
Superlative (Compare 3 or more) Tallest She is the tallest in the class.

See? We add -er for comparing two things, and -est for three or more!

3) Key Formulas / Rules

Rule 1: For short adjectives (1 syllable), add -er for comparative and -est for superlative.
Example: fastfasterfastest
Rule 2: For adjectives ending with e, just add -r or -st.
Example: largelargerlargest
Rule 3: For adjectives with 2 or more syllables, use more for comparative and most for superlative.
Example: beautifulmore beautifulmost beautiful
Rule 4: Use than with comparatives.
Example: She is taller than her sister.

4) Did You Know? 🤔

In India, the Taj Mahal is called one of the most beautiful buildings in the world! 🕌

We use adjectives of comparison to tell how special or different things are. Isn’t that amazing?

5) Exam Tips ✔️

  • Remember to use than after comparative adjectives. Example: He is faster than me.
  • Don’t add more with short adjectives. ❌ more taller is wrong. ✔️ Use taller.
  • Use the before superlatives. Example: She is the smartest student.
  • Watch out for spelling changes like big → bigger (double the consonant).
  • Practice with Indian examples like: Delhi is hotter than Mumbai in summer.
