🌟 Hook: Raju’s Sweet Shop Adventure 🍬

One sunny morning, Raju went to his favourite sweet shop in Delhi. He wanted to buy 2 laddoos and 3 jalebis. The laddoos cost ₹5 each and the jalebis cost ₹3 each. But Raju only had ₹20! 🤔
Can you help Raju find out if he has enough money to buy his sweets?

💡 Core Concepts: Understanding Money and Prices

Money is what we use to buy things. In India, we use Rupees (₹) and coins. Here are some common coins and notes:

Coins Value
1 Rupee Coin ₹1
2 Rupees Coin ₹2
5 Rupees Coin ₹5

To find out if Raju has enough money, we add the cost of all the sweets:

Item Quantity Price per item (₹) Total Price (₹)
Laddoos 2 5 2 × 5 = 10
Jalebis 3 3 3 × 3 = 9

Now, add the total prices: ₹10 + ₹9 = ₹19.
Raju has ₹20, so yes! He can buy all the sweets and still get ₹1 back. 🎉

Key Rule:

Total Cost = (Quantity of item 1 × Price per item 1) + (Quantity of item 2 × Price per item 2) + ...

📚 Key Formulas / Rules

  • Adding Money: Add the amounts of money to find the total.
  • Subtracting Money: Subtract to find change or balance left.
  • Multiplying Price: Multiply price per item by quantity to get total price.
  • Comparing Money: Check if you have enough money by comparing total cost and money you have.

🤩 Did You Know?

The Indian Rupee symbol ₹ was designed by a famous Indian artist named D. Udaya Kumar in 2010! It combines the Devanagari letter "र" and the Latin letter "R". Cool, right? 🇮🇳

📝 Exam Tips

  • Always write the unit ₹ after the number to show it is money.
  • Don’t forget to multiply quantity by price before adding.
  • Check your addition carefully — small mistakes can change the answer.
  • Practice word problems — they often ask for total cost or change.
  • Remember: If total cost is less than money you have, you get change back!
