What is a Noun? 🤔
A noun is a word that names a person, place, thing, or animal.
| Type of Noun | Meaning | Examples |
|---|---|---|
| Person | Name of a person | Raju, Teacher, Doctor |
| Place | Name of a place | Delhi, School, Market |
| Thing | Name of a thing | Book, Mango, Chair |
| Animal | Name of an animal | Elephant, Dog, Cat |
How to Find a Noun? 🔍
Look for words that name something you can see, touch, or talk about.
Example: “The girl plays with a ball in the park.”
Rule 1: A noun names a person, place, thing, or animal.
Rule 2: Nouns can be singular (one) or plural (more than one).
Rule 3: Proper nouns (names) always start with a capital letter.
Singular and Plural Nouns
| Singular (One) | Plural (More than One) |
|---|---|
| Mango | Mangoes |
| Cat | Cats |
| Book | Books |
In Hindi, nouns are called "संज्ञा" (Sangya). Just like in English, they name people, places, and things. For example, राम (Ram) is a person, दिल्ली (Delhi) is a place, and सेब (Seb) means apple, a thing.
Exam Tips ✔️
- Always write proper nouns with a capital letter. Example: India, Rani.
- Remember the difference between singular and plural nouns. Add -s or -es for plurals.
- When asked to identify nouns, look for names of people, places, animals, or things.
- Practice with simple sentences from your daily life, like names of your family, school, and favourite toys.
- Board exams usually ask to underline nouns or write nouns from a sentence. Be careful to spot all noun types!
